The structure of the congress was innovative, due to the concept worked out by the Finnish colleagues in charge of organizing the event. The lectures had been previously submitted either in print or on the Internet, which enabled a continuous and intensive discussion before the actual debates took place. Most chairmen of the symposia choose to publish the lectures and the contents of the discussions as separate proceedings. This differed from the former practice in the sense that the Association published only those contents that could not be published by the chairmen of the symposia. A conference of the International Center of Hungarian Studies and the Finnish Lector Centre (UKAN) was included into the Congress as an additional programme. This forum enabled the participants to share experiences related to the teaching of Hungarian and the familiarization of the Hungarian national culture abroad.
