The International Association of Hungarian Studies urges and supports research and education relating to the Hungarian language, culture and society. Further, it aims to enhance the cooperation between such forums in Hungary and worldwide. The Association acquaints itself with Hungarian Studies related activities and renders accessible this information – primarily via the Internet – to its members and those interested. The Association publishes articles and monographies in its publication series. A prominent form of activity is the Congress of Hungarian Studies, organized every five years and bringing together 400–500 scholars. In addition, growing emphasis is being laid on the conferences in between the congresses, with the primary aim of supporting the doctoral education in the field of Hungarian Studies at universities. In the form of these conferences the Association provides a joint forum for doctoral students in and outside Hungary.
